UP Freight VS Downhill Hairpin Curves

Off in the distance, there’s a freight rolling downhill to a 90 degree bend!

The wide open spaces of the beautiful Arizona desert provide a magnificent backdrop of the topography that this mixed freight has to traverse.

The Engineer is going at a pretty good clip until he starts the chicane of curves headed downhill.

Amazingly, the heavy freight is able to slow itself to almost a complete stop prior to making the bend without any problem. The total weight of this consist is unimaginable, but the engineer seems to knows exactly how to handle this load.

Let us know if you are a fan of seeing trains in the desert. We would love to hear about your experience!
